Welcome to China Basti Kali Bari
China Basti Kali Bari is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental religious and social organization, which has been serving the community with dedication since its inception in 1979. Rooted in spiritual values and guided by a strong sense of social responsibility, our organization is committed to the upliftment and well-being of all sections of society—particularly the underprivileged, marginalized, and vulnerable, regardless of age, gender, caste, creed, or ethnicity.
Over the years, China Basti Kali Bari has continuously strived to be a beacon of hope and support for those in need. Our core mission revolves around the improvement of social conditions by offering assistance, resources, and facilities to those who lack access to basic needs and opportunities. Whether through religious observances, cultural events, community development programs, or humanitarian initiatives, we aim to foster a spirit of unity, compassion, and service among people.
To ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the organization, two committees have been established:
China Basti Kali Bari Committee
This is the principal and governing body of the organization, responsible for overseeing and managing all religious, social, and developmental activities. The committee was formally constituted on 18th August 2013 after extensive consultations and discussions among members and community leaders. Recognizing the importance of formal recognition and accountability, it was unanimously decided that the organization should be registered under the name of our village as "China Basti Kali Bari"—a name that reflects both our spiritual heritage and our commitment to the local community.Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee
This committee operates under the umbrella of the main organization and is specifically entrusted with the planning, organization, and execution of the annual Sarbajanin Durga Puja celebrations. It plays a vital role in preserving our cultural traditions and bringing people together in a spirit of devotion and festivity.
Together, these two committees work hand in hand to fulfill the vision and mission of China Basti Kali Bari. Our journey continues with the blessings of the Divine Mother and the collective support of our well-wishers, volunteers, and community members.

Our Festival & Occasion
At China Basti Kali Bari, festivals are not just rituals—they are moments of devotion, unity, and cultural pride. We celebrate a wide range of religious and cultural occasions with great enthusiasm and spiritual fervor. Major festivals like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Kojagara Lakshmi Puja, Maha Shivaratri, and Pratishtha Diwas are observed with traditional rituals, community participation, and a deep sense of devotion. Each event reflects our commitment to preserving spiritual heritage and fostering harmony within the community.

Pratishtha Diwas – A Sacred Celebration
Pratishtha Diwas is one of the most significant and revered occasions for our organization, symbolizing spiritual dedication and the divine presence of Maa Kali in our temple and community. This auspicious day marks the consecration of our Kali Mandir, which took place in the year 2007 on the Shukla Trayodashi Tithi, coinciding with the commencement of the holy Ambubachi Mela, according to the traditional Bengali calendar.
Since then, our organization has been observing Pratishtha Diwas with great devotion and enthusiasm on this sacred tithi every year. It is not merely a religious event but a moment of unity, reflection, and gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon us.
This year, we are pleased to announce the celebration of our 18th Pratishtha Diwas on 8th June 2025. The puja rituals for the day will begin at 9:00 AM, invoking divine blessings for peace, prosperity, and well-being for all devotees and the entire community.
We warmly invite all devotees, well-wishers, and members of the community to join us in this sacred celebration and be part of this spiritual journey.
Durga Puja – Sharod Utsav
Durga Puja is one of the most significant Hindu festivals, celebrating the triumph of the Divine Mother, Goddess Durga, over the evil buffalo demon Mahishasura. Symbolizing the victory of good over evil and the power of Shakti (the divine feminine energy), the festival pays homage to the universal mother and her protective, nurturing, and fierce aspects.
This sacred festival is celebrated over five days, coinciding with the concluding days of Navaratri and culminating with Vijaya Dashami (Dussehra). Devotees from all walks of life come together in worship, cultural celebration, and community spirit during this time.
At China Basti Kali Bari, Sri Sri Durga Puja holds immense spiritual and cultural significance. Our journey of celebrating this grand festival began in the year 1979, and since then, it has been the most prominent and eagerly awaited event of the year, organized with devotion by the China Basti Kali Bari family and the Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee.
In 2004, we proudly celebrated the Silver Jubilee of our Durga Puja, marking 25 glorious years of devotion and celebration. Looking ahead, we are joyously preparing to observe the Golden Jubilee in 2028, which will mark 50 years of this rich tradition.
This year, i.e., 2025, we are delighted to announce the celebration of the 47th Sri Sri Durga Puja. With deep reverence, cultural enthusiasm, and community participation, we invite all devotees and well-wishers to join us in making this year's Durga Puja a memorable and spiritually fulfilling experience.

Lakshmi Puja - Kojagara Lakshmi Puja
At China Basti Kali Bari, one of the most sacred and significant occasions dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi is observed on the full moon night (Purnima Tithi) in the lunar month of Ashwin or Kartik, according to the traditional Hindu calendar. This special celebration is known as Kojagara Lakshmi Puja, and is more commonly referred to as Bengal Lakshmi Puja among devotees in West Bengal and neighboring regions.
The term "Kojagara" is derived from the Sanskrit words "Ko Jagarti?" which means "Who is awake?"—a symbolic question asked by the Goddess herself as she descends to Earth on this night, bestowing blessings upon those who remain awake in prayer and devotion. The night is believed to be charged with divine energy, prosperity, and spiritual merit.
Kojagara Puja is celebrated on the auspicious night of Sharad Purnima, which is also considered the brightest and most spiritually charged full moon of the year. On this night, devotees worship Mahalakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, prosperity, and well-being, with devotion, traditional rituals, and offerings of sweets, grains, and symbolic lights.
In our temple, this occasion is marked with elaborate rituals, beautifully decorated altars, the recitation of Lakshmi Panchali, and a serene atmosphere filled with prayer and community participation. Kojagara Lakshmi Puja holds deep cultural and spiritual importance for the China Basti Kali Bari family, as we seek the grace of Goddess Lakshmi for peace, abundance, and collective progress.

Kali Puja - Shyama Puja
Kali Puja is a sacred Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Kali, the fierce and compassionate embodiment of Shakti (divine feminine energy), known for destroying evil and protecting her devotees. This powerful celebration takes place on the new moon night (Amavasya Tithi) during the Diwali festivities and holds deep spiritual significance, especially in West Bengal and among devotees of the Goddess.
At China Basti Kali Bari, Kali Puja is one of the oldest and most revered festivals, observed with intense devotion and elaborate rituals. Although the exact date of the very first Kali Puja celebration at our temple is not recorded, it is known that this sacred tradition began prior to the formal establishment of the organization in 1979, making it one of our oldest spiritual observances.
This year, we are pleased to announce that Kali Puja 2025 will be celebrated on the night of 20th October 2025, beginning at 8:00 PM and continuing into the early hours of 21th October 2021, concluding at 2:00 AM. The temple will be beautifully illuminated with diyas and lights, and the air will resonate with the sound of mantras, devotional songs, and the heartfelt prayers of devotees.
We warmly invite all devotees and community members to join us in this spiritually charged celebration and seek the blessings of Maa Kali for strength, protection, and the removal of all negativities.

Maha Shivaratri is one of the most sacred and significant festivals in the Hindu tradition, symbolizing the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. It is celebrated annually on the Chaturdashi Tithi during the Krishna Paksha of the Magha month, as per the traditional Indian calendar. This night marks a powerful convergence of spiritual energy and is devoted to deep meditation, prayer, and worship of Lord Shiva.
At China Basti Kali Bari, Maha Shivaratri has been celebrated with great devotion and reverence since 2008. Each year, this auspicious occasion draws numerous devotees who come together to offer their prayers, chant mantras, and participate in various rituals to seek the divine blessings of Mahadev.
In 2025, we are observing Maha Shivaratri on the 26th and 27th of February. The temple premises will remain open to all devotees on:
26th February 2025: From 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
27th February 2025: From 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM
Devotees are warmly invited to visit the temple during these hours to perform puja, offer belpatra, milk, and dhatura to the Shivlinga, and engage in spiritual activities in a serene and sacred atmosphere.
We look forward to your presence and collective prayers during this holy celebration of Shiva’s eternal grace.
